Blog blog blog blog blog blog

I am reading a book called Turn the Beat Around: The Secret History of Disco. It's something I think about a lot, the way for one intense decade black people and gay people danced to the same music, in the same places, while doing the same drugs. I feel there is a lot to reclaim.

Also I have been thinking about Sara Baartman, the Hottentot Venus. Her life was rough, yall. Docile bodies, Foucault me in the ass, etc. Also, about how much of the knowledge in schoolbooks was written as a means of justifying European imperialism. I feel that, if I have a calling as a historian, it is connected to this. Will reflect on this next ~soul journey~ and report back.

I have been taking so many soul journeys. I mean, what else is there to do sometimes?

My mom is getting her PhD! I've been looking for poems to read at her graduation party, and I found this awesome one.

Golden Oldie

I made it home early, only to get
stalled in the driveway-swaying
at the wheel like a blind pianist caught in a tune
meant for more than two hands playing.
The words were easy, crooned
by a young girl dying to feel alive, to discover
a pain majestic enough
to live by. I turned the air conditioning off,
leaned back to float on a film of sweat,
and listened to her sentiment:
Baby, where did our love go?-a lament
I greedily took in
without a clue who my lover
might be, or where to start looking.

keep it common law

I've been thinking about this blog more than you would think that I've been thinking about this blog.

It's been a struggle, as always.

I went to the beach this weekend. I ran into the surf giddy and stoned, laughing semi-hysterically until a breaker knocked me sideways and stole my glasses. I have had glasses since I was four years old, and my vision has never been clear enough for me to see what my face looks like without them. That is, until now. THANK U KKKONTAXXX!!!!!

Too many dreams, yall

my baby's got e.s.p.

It's been a long time
shouldn'taleftyou

I got a twitter, which is much more conducive to the erratic spurts of thought that my brain sometimes achieves. It's not hard to find if you're interested.

I am going to South by Southwest.

School is a big life commitment yall. Being funemployed gets a little less fun with every week. I spend my time biting my nails and reading Mercedes Lackey novels. I am thinking restaurant work. Ugh.

I really want to lose three pounds.

2008

SexXxy can I?

I AM DONE HERE ARE SOME THINGS I LIKED IN 2008

I liked these people's albums here are some videos:

Beyonce's baby sister thinks her shit is too good to be embedded. What a diva. Here.

Yall are going to have to click here for this. Not a rickroll, Universal are just slurs who won't let this be embedded. Also the reverse of this video was even better, but it isn't online anymore. NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY

Like every other white person who listens to rap I LOVE LIL WAYNE. I thought this album had the two best pop songs of the year, Lollipop and Ms. Officer. It's all really good stuff, wish my name was Mrs Carter-huh.

I was going to write about books but you know, books are dead.

i got barack in my arms again

so satisfied.

Today I mistook cuticle cream for lip gloss.

I never reviewed it for y'all, but the new Beyonce album is still amazing.

My semester is starting; I'm taking 18 hours dear GOD. Everything is what I want to be doing, so that's cool. I have two classes with only two students. Also my job is going out of business. As much as I hate it, I have worked there for four years. Hate you, [poorly run book corporation] for making me feel feelings.

Vinyl roundup! I have recently acquired:
Reflections-The Supremes
Love to Love You Baby-Donna Summer
Friends-Shalamar
? (it has You Make Me Feel Mighty Real)-Sylvester
the soundtrack to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

Also for all five of my readers, specifically the one who asked me, yes i am going to do more year end posting, I am just doing it AT MY OWN PACE BECAUSE I DESERVE IT. You'll probably see it mid june. Or later this afternoon.

On New Years I resolved to only listen to music from Africa in 2009. I later said I would only listen to disco for all of 2009. At least there is one song I can listen to:
